Then I said,
“O Lord, God of heaven, the great and awesome God who keeps His covenant of unfailing love with those who love Him and obey His commands...
[Nehemiah 1:5, NLT].

These words here begins Nehemiah’s prayer [Nehemiah 1], a prayer that has reference to all the prayers which He had for some time before been putting up to God day and night for Jerusalem. He begins this prayer worshipping God. He humbly and reverently addresses God, and gives God the glory due to His name.
Your Loving Father is God, who keeps His covenant of unfailing love to those who love Him. Do not condemn yourself if you remember times when you have not loved God or expressed your love to Him. Rest in the knowledge that God loved you first and nothing can separate you from His love. The words "...with those who love Him..." refers to those who are building a friendship, affection and relationship with Him. It is an ongoing process.
As you draw near to your loving Father, remember that He is the God of heaven, infinitely above you, and sovereign Lord over you. He is great and awesome, infinitely excelling all the principalities and powers both of the upper and of the lower world, angels and kings. He is a God to be worshipped with awe by all His people. Draw near to your Loving Father in worship today. A worshipper of God knows whom he believes in and knows that God is able to do exceedingly, abundantly above all he can ask or think.
