What Is In Your Hand?

Then the Lord asked him, “What is that in your hand?”
“A shepherd’s staff,” Moses replied.

This discussion took place between God and Moses at the bush concerning the great assignment of bringing Israel out of Egypt. Moses objects the people’s unbelief and God answers that objection by giving him a power to work miracles - to turn his rod into a serpent, and then into a rod again. The rod in his hand was a plain old shepherd staff. But with the power of God upon it, it had great potential to achieve great and mighty things. It made the subject of a double miracle - it is thrown out of his hand and it becomes a serpent; he picks up and it becomes a rod again.

Today your Loving Father says to you, "What is it in your hand?" God uses simple things to accomplish great things. Like Moses you may have a low opinion of yourself especially if you fail to meet what you see as God’s acceptable standard. God loves you just the way you are and is ready to use you with what you have. If you are thinking that you have to be a little better than you are now before God will use you, you may never get there.

Do not be discouraged with where you are in your walk with God. Your Pharoah may come, and when he does you will have in your hand the very thing God needs to use at that time to overcome if you are willing that God should use you. God has given you all that pertains to life and godliness. His strength is made perfect in your weakness.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank You for loving me just the way I am. There is nothing right now that I see in my hand that You can use. You know the giftings in me even though I can’t see them myself at this present time. I pray that You will use me in Your way and in Your time. Help me to realize that with Your power, the little I have, in faith, in gifts and talents, in abilities, can be used to accomplish great and mighty things. In Jesus Name I pray, Amen.

One-Year Daily Bible Reading Plan - Feb. 26 2010 - Numbers 33-36 (OT), Luke 8: 1-25 (NT).

Suggested General Prayer Point - Pray for Fathers. Pray that fathers will take example from our Heavenly Father to demonstrate love and care to their children. Pray that they will be motivated by Christ’s unwavering devotion toward them to love their children unconditionally and completely. Pray that they will take responsibility for their children and bring them up in the way of God. Should they feel discouraged, pray that by the grace of God they will trust God and look up to Him. Pray that they will remain earnest in prayer and faithful in hope for their children. [If you are a father, also say this prayer for yourself].
