But the wisdom that comes from heaven is first of all pure; then peace-loving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial and sincere
We are often times bombarded with the need to make decisions, and the outcome of our decisions have an impact on our life or the lives of those around us. The impact of our decisions may have direct or indirect consequences and may be immediate or long-term. The decisions we make could be as simple as our choice of reaction to events around us, or as magnified as our choice of a life partner, or our choice of Salvation. In a single day, a person is prone to make several decisions consciously or unconsciously, and these decisions define our actions.
In present day, there is an overflow of information and help, several guides that offer the best solution to life's many challenges. Unfortunately, these principles can't be tested true until the consequence of the decision is borne.
As children of a loving God, encompassed about with the need to make decisions that mirror our testimony in Christ Jesus, He has made provision to guide us with His own all-time, all-knowing wisdom. He says 'If anyone of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to him' (James 1:5).
We can therefore differentiate the wisdom that comes from God from the wisdom that comes from experience or intellect, by it's characteristics:
- The wisdom from God brings peace to all parties concerned, there is general acceptance for this kind of wisdom. It is a peace maker.
- The wisdom from God is humble in its deeds. It does not seek opportunity to outshine others
- The wisdom from God is not selfish or bitter. It does not seek opportunity to exploit
- The wisdom from God is pure and devoid of lust or other unhealthy emotions
- The wisdom from God seeks first the good of others, and willingly submits personal opinion and pleasures
Gauging our decisions by the characteristics of Gods kind of wisdom can keep us from hurtful outcomes and consequences of being worldly-wise.
Prayer: Dear Lord, I need your wisdom on a daily basis to walk right and avoid painful regrets. I ask in line with your word for wisdom that constantly brings peace. Help me Holy Spirit to sieve out advice that doesn’t come from you with the characteristics of your wisdom. I pray that the outcome of your wisdom in my life will bring you endless glory in Jesus name.
One-Year Daily Bible Reading Plan - May 28 2010 - 2 Chronicles 6-7 (OT), 1 Corinthians 2 (NT)
Pray for someone today - Pray for the church of Jesus Christ, that there will be strength and increase to the body of Christ in different parts of the world. That many would be reconciled to Christ in these latter days. Pray for Christians who have gone back to former ways, that they return to the love of God and be encouraged for the rest of the Christian journey.
