Praying With Purpose

One day...Jesus went up on a mountain to pray, and He prayed to God all night. At daybreak He called together all of His disciples and chose twelve of them to be apostles...

The Bible gives account of times when Jesus rose early to pray. It was mostly to prepare for His daily mission. In the scripture for today, we learn that prior to making the huge decision on who will be His apostles, out of the many disciples that followed Him, He prayed all through the night. This was a time spent in discussion with His father, and He did not leave until He heard from His Father.

Let us take our prayers to another level. Let us purpose that for every decision we make, we not only think it through but run it through our loving, heavenly Father. Let us move past dropping requests for God, but enter into discussion with Him. As you pray, consider these: What is He saying about your request? What answers are you getting? What word is He placing in your heart? What move is He telling you to make?

Prayer is communication with God. It should not be one-sided. As you pray, make out time to get an answer from God. Ask the Holy Spirit to make you more attuned to the voice of your Father. Purpose not to leave His presence until you hear a word from Him.

Prayer: My Loving Father, I thank You that I have direct access to You because of Jesus. I can come boldy into Your presence to commune with You. I pray that my relationship with You will continually grow. I pray for the ability to hear Your voice clearly. Each time I pray, may I receive from You instruction, direction or an answer of peace. In Jesus Name, Amen.

Pray for someone today - Pray for those who have put aside their dreams and aspirations in order to take care of loved ones. Pray that God will compensate them and reward them, and when they get back to pursuing their dreams, that the Lord wll restore them the time past.
